If Presidents Washington and Jefferson had their way, Shepherdstown today would be the nation?s capitol.  Both surveyed the area, believing it to be an excellent choice for the center of political affairs.

While Washington, D.C. took those honors, Shepherdstown is still a gathering center for the politically elite. Top-secret pow-wows are held here and every branch of the U.S. military has representation in this historic town. Even the nation?s new Office of Homeland Security has headquarters here as does the U.S. Coast Guard.

A colony of artisans started Shepherdstown, the oldest town in the state.  Evidence of their craftsmanship is still alive and well in this region, from hand-crafted glassware to amazing quilt work and wood carvings of intricate design.

Stroll down Main Street to find hidden treasures.
